06.27.09: Hobos & Mermaids on the High Seas

Whether you got soaked at the Mermaid Parade or never made it out in the dour weather, here's your chance to shake your mermaid best in surreal nautical surroundings, as Gemini & Scorpio raise the massive square-rigged sails of New York's only Tall Ship for a dance party on the high seas. Rebuilt from original plans borrowed from the National Archives, the 160-ft Clipper City, with its masts rising 135' off the deck, is a faithful replica of the clipper ships that plied America's waters more than a century ago.

We'll bring the party on board with DJ Jon Margulies, originator of hobo-tech: depression era techno-contemporary music that nods to a forgotten America, celebrating half-smoked cigars and steaming cauldrons of stew. Come and jiggle to railroad song mashups and prairie guitars floating in silicon datascapes. Dress: hobos and mermaids, of course!
