05.14.06: Artist Reception and Party for LIVE! Music and Event Photography Solo Exhibit by Larisa Fuchs
This is a first solo exhibition for Larisa Fuchs, a Ukrainian-born artist, photographer and designer (her design handiwork includes our site). The show is a collection of dramatic images in light and color of an eclectic group of performers and events. The 86 colorful art prints comprising the exhibit can be seen along the 800-foot concourse of the Chelsea Market May 8 - June 18. Some of the musicians whose photos are featured in the show include: Lenny Kravitz, Antony and the Johnsons, The Dresden Dolls, Luminescent Orchestrii, The Machine, Hungry March Band, The Wiyos and many others (see www.insight2.com for more on the show and on Larisa Fuchs).
The artist reception will take place in the exclusive 5,000 sq ft event space in the Market and will be an opportunity to celebrate New York's vibrant creative scene. Many of the musicians featured in the show will be in attendance, joining in an open-jam style session. There will be three acoustic live performances (6pm-8pm):
Luminsecent Orchestrii: an explosive mash of Romanian Gypsy melodies, punk frenzy, salty tangos, hard-rocking klezmer, haunting Balkan harmony, hip-hop beats and Appalachian fiddle.
The Wiyos: Sweet, sexy and romantic vaudevillian ragtime blues, hillbilly swing and old time country...music filled with blood, whiskey and sugar.
Sxip!Matta: international circus and theater composer Sxip Shirey and amazing human beatboxer Adam Matta creating unique soundscapes utilizing mutant harmonicas, bullhorns, whistles and found objects.
After the live music, three fabulous DJ will provide a soundtrack for dancing:
DJ Joro Boro (Mehanata-Bulgarian Bar) will spin his unique blend of gypsy, punk and psychedelia.
DJ Pushpaka and DJ The Eye (Disorient) will close the night with eclectic funky throbs and beats.
The reception will also feature diverse art installations from a number of artists, including breathing LED balloon creations from Anakin Koenig Airways; music, mythology and metaphysics-inspired art from Troy C. Frantz; and video projections (featuring images from the exhibit) from the multimedia masters at the Glass Bead Collective. Delicious organic sweets will be available from Nourish The Spirit. There will be wine and beer and whiskey, too. This is a community-oriented event, with bar and musicians relying on your generous donations.
