Castaways Casino Club

Friday, Jan 19, 9pm-late, sliding scale $10-20 donation, 21+ with ID (25+ suggested) Gemini and Scorpio Loft, Gowanus, BK Address with RSVP: http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/202032047030755 Social media: @gemini_scorpio #geminiandscorpio

Calling all faux millionaires to litter their gold coin at our illicit gambling establishment far offshore on the banks of Gowanus. The casino club will feature blackjack, roulette and the star attraction of the night: Texas hold'em tournament, played at 10pm, 11pm, and 12am for a $50 value prize. For non-tourney games, a member credit system will let you use your winnings for future party entry, drinks, etc.

The original Castaways resort in Vegas was peak-60s polynesian insanity. We'll honor our namesake with some tropical drinks & beats. Drinks courtesy of our Burning Man campmate in the famed French Quarter Golden Cafe, expert tropical drink maker Jay. Last time he passed through town, there were strawberries dipped in chocolate and injected with Grand Marnier. We'll see what happens this time. Beats courtesy of tropical bass maestro Geko Jones.

Dress suggestions: funky party-wear, 1960s Polynesian kitsch, faux fancy, vintage lounge, sparkly cocktail, or other non-sloppy attire appreciated. No elaborate costumes or formalwear required, but you know we love it when you put in effort.

We'll turn the heat way up for some sweaty dancing joy. Wear layers!

Lastly: we still have a few of those ridiculous tiki to-go tumblers from the last Castaways. Take your tropical drinks to go in one of those bad boys for only $10.

The Cocktail Experiment + Happy Unbirthday party

Fri, Jan 26, 8pm-1am, FREE + FREE drinks if you bring a cocktail ingredient*, 21+ (25+ recommended) $6 per experiment / $17 flight of three / cash only Gemini & Scorpio Loft, Gowanus, BK Official site & address RSVP: http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/328228067679492/ Social media: @gemini_scorpio / #geminiandscorpio

A speakeasy experiment in our magical loft: craft cocktail pop-up meets Iron Chef. One kickass bartender, a fully stocked bar, and YOU bringing a liquid challenge: a bottle of something unusual for our pro to turn into a one-of-a-kind cocktail. If your bottle is used in creation of a cocktail, you and up to three friends get a complimentary round. No two cocktails will be the same, and all will be delicious.

Or, skip the challenge & just enjoy inventive craft cocktails in a better-than-bar atmosphere: a sexy low-lit loft, lots of couches, sprawling roof, chill music, serious skills behind the bar, no attitude. It's like having our place to yourself, without having to rent it out.

New for 2018: we're thinking of going monthly with the cocktail pop-up and celebrating the birthdays of everyone who comes to visit. Dessert bites and party hats for everyone! Is your birthday in January? Your first drink is on the house (show us your ID). You can even get in touch to reserve a couch, arrange party favors, etc.

*Tips on bringing ingredients: we welcome both liquor and mixer challenges, but please no basic juices or sodas...that's not what craft cocktails are made of. Consider: half-size bottles, homemade infusions or syrups, that forgotten bottle of weird booze you don't know what to do with, inexpensive amaros, bitters or vermouths. Most importantly, since whatever you brought will be in your free cocktail round, choose flavors you love!
