-->Sat, May 6, 8-10pm Tea Time for Mad Girls Productions presents Browncoats: The Musical

$10 / $20 with tickets to Cantina party Tix: http://bpt.me/376013 FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/1809156699337318

Eight months after the events of Miranda, the Crew of the Serenity is staring into the void of a changing 'verse, wondering how to go forward, and knowing there's no going back. Whispers of rebellion rising up are tempting Mal to throw himself recklessly back into the thick of things, and with the impending birth of Zoe's baby, she is forced to make the impossible choice between her loyalty to Serenity and protecting the last thing she has of Wash. And that's provided they can keep the ship running long enough to reach the next planet!

All proceeds benefit ACLU. Costumes encouraged, but not required -- unless you're staying for the Cantina party.

-->Sat, May 6, 10pm-late Cantina at the End of the Universe

$15 until 4.30 / $20 after and at door, if avail / $10 after 1am FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/204825423352814 Tix: http://bpt.me/376013 Presale recommended: smaller capacity than usual due to giant alien monster puppets

Jedis, Trekkers, Browncoats, Time Lords and Hitchhikers from all corners of the cosmos, follow us to a cantina at the end of the universe to celebrate Star Wars Day, May the Fourth. There will be aesthetically pleasing air pressure waves coming at your eardrums, mad scientist concoctions (no synthahol, we promise), and an eclectic crowd of humanoids, demonoids, arachnoids, cephalopoids, androids, and surprisingly many other alienoids. We won't let any wookies tear your arm off, but don't mention Miranda, or the seemingly harmless 90-pound brunette wandering around barefoot may suddenly opt for some thrilling heroics, and then you're on your own. Dress uniforms encouraged, watch out for the replicants, and don't forget your towel. You can materialize your Tardis right on the dance floor, but we recommend buying your multipass in advance, in case a clone invasion results in massive overcrowding and subsequent destruction of the entire multiverse.

It's an intergalactic creature dance party, with our special guests: alien monster puppet robot-wrestling ensemble BIG NAZO, returning just for this annual event from recent ComiCon and international festival gigs. DJ Illexandra & DJ Stylus provide epically nerdy beats all night, and classic sci-fi visuals play throughout.

Costume required, as always. Think Star Wars, Star Trek, HGTTG, Firefly, Doctor Who, Blade Runner, Martians, robots, aliens, androids, giant spider creatures with tentacle faces, orange-haired hot-pants-wearing supreme beings, intergalactic bounty hunters, true-blue-blooded opera singers, shiny creatures of energy in corporeal form, the time-traveling anti-you.

===+++===+++===+++=== VICTORIAN TEA: 5/14 ===+++===+++===+++===

Gemini and Scorpio

cordially invite you to

The Grand Victorian Garden Tea - Mother's Day edition

Sunday, May 14 (Mother's Day), 4-8pm, $40, all ages, rain or shine at the historical Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden, 421 E 61st St

Info: http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/425384277822847 Tix: http://victoriantea.brownpapertickets.com Social media: @gemini_scorpio #geminiandscorpio #gsvictorianball

Join us as we travel back in time to the Victorian Age, to an elegant country resort a short carriage ride away from the hustle and bustle of the city (which at that time extended only as far north as 14th Street). It's a proper turn-of-century tea party, with finger sandwiches, scones and fancies, in a darling garden attached to an impossible Victorian cottage overlooking modern Manhattan. Historical chef Rebecca Leigh Silverman will hand-make delectable treats from antique recipes, and give a small talk about each dish.

The menu (more TBA): Assorted Finger Sandwiches Scones with Clotted Cream & Preserves Battenberg cake Lemon curd tarts

Activities will include: - Victorian garden games, including Game of Graces [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_graces ] and Battledore and Shuttlecock [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battledore_and_shuttlecock ] - Hand-drawn portraits of guests by Anastasios Taso Megaris - Card games, including Flinch, played with an original 1903 deck - DIY amusements from original Victorian books

Dress code: 1800-1910s summer garden party, with all-white, cream and pastel tones encouraged. No modern casual wear, please - though modern cocktail summer attire is easy to accessorize with a nod to Victorian times. Costume inspiration Pinterest board (not ours): http://bit.ly/1WvlVyB - and we have one for our banquet/ball/tea research here: http://bit.ly/29n5fZm

About our venue: Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house for a 23-acre estate, and converted into the Mount Vernon Hotel in 1826, this stone building sits on land originally owned by Colonel William Stephens Smith, and his wife Abigail Adams Smith, daughter of John Adams. The hotel operated until 1833, at which point the house became the home for three generations of a New York City family.

PERFORMANCE: A Length of Rope https://www.facebook.com/events/197738394061123 This show explores the significant choices we come to in life, with a rope and trapeze suspended on opposing sides of each intersection. These two circus apparatuses represent the struggle of choosing between different directions—be it a choice of place, identity, friendship, or love. There is no fourth wall in this show, spectators can see artist Ariel Schmidtke's hands tremble from physical exhaustion, and some portions are performed among the audience members. The show’s relatability and vulnerability invite spectators to project their own choices on the performance and explore for themselves their lost possibilities. In this way, the work is innovative; it pushes beyond circus, beyond drama, to a place of intimate connection. (The Muse, 350 Moffat St, BK, 8pm, $10-$25)

FILM: Body Politics: City of Women https://nitehawkcinema.com/williamsburg/film-series/nitehawk-naughties Nitehawk Naughties 2017 program, Body Politics, presents a corporeal selection of Italian films (1964-1980) that position sexuality in terms of politics. Federico Fellini’s epic 1980 fantasia introduced the start of the Maestro’s delirious late period. A surrealist tour-de-force filmed on soundstages and locations alike, and overflowing with the same sensory (and sensual) invention heretofore found only in the classic movie-musicals (and Fellini’s own oeuvre), City of Women/La città delle donne taps into the era’s restless youth culture, coalescing into nothing less than Fellini’s post-punk opus. (Nighthawk Cinema, 136 Metropolis Ave, BK, 12:10am, $12)
