Have you ever wanted to shop (or at least rifle through) Miss Scorpio's closet? This is your chance.

Miss S is teaming up with fellow dress-up addicts and craft-makers for some closet-cleaning and handmade clothing & accessory shopping. Think one-of-a-kind vintage, feathers and fascinators, lots of jewelry, fun pillows and other gifts, and lots and lots of sparkles. Of course even divas have days off, so there will be plenty of casual wear alongside costume and vintage pieces. Plus: by-donation champagne & small snacks, chill soundtrack, and lounging in our awesome loft and sprawling roof. Perfect spring Sunday.

Miss S owns pieces from 1960s through today, including some unique theatrical costumes. Some designer names, but mostly items selected for their visual appeal. Prices for most things are $5-20, though of course the handmade things are more pricey. Bulk deals happily made.

present

Cantina at the End of the Universe

Sat, May 2, 9pm-late $20 until 4.24 / $25 after and at door, if avail / $10 after 12am Presale recommended: smaller capacity than usual due to giant alien monster puppets Our Gowanus, BK loft - must RSVP for location

Details & RSVP: http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html Tix: http://cantina.brownpapertickets.com FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/718449234944644 Social media: #GScantina #geminiandscorpio

Jedis, Trekkers, Browncoats, Time Lords and Hitchhikers from all corners of the cosmos, follow us to a cantina at the end of the universe to celebrate Star Wars Day, May the Fourth. There will be aesthetically pleasing air pressure waves coming at your eardrums, mad scientist concoctions (no synthahol, we promise), and an eclectic crowd of humanoids, demonoids, arachnoids, cephalopoids, androids, and surprisingly many other alienoids. We won't let any wookies tear your arm off, but don't mention Miranda, or the seemingly harmless 90-pound brunette wandering around barefoot may suddenly opt for some thrilling heroics, and then you're on your own. Dress uniforms encouraged, watch out for the replicants, and don't forget your towel. You can materialize your Tardis right on the dance floor, but we recommend buying your multipass in advance, in case a clone invasion results in massive overcrowding and subsequent destruction of the entire multiverse.

With our special guests: alien monster puppet creature funk band BIG NAZO , returning just for this event from Rhode Island (though we suspect it's really outer space). Stumblebum Brass Band brings the brass mayhem straight from the stratosphere. After the alien invasion, DJ Poodlecannon spins space music for your dancing feet, flippers and paws.

Costume required, as always. Think Star Wars, Star Trek, HGTTG, Firefly, Doctor Who, Blade Runner, Martians, robots, aliens, androids, giant spider creatures with tentacle faces, orange-haired hot-pants-wearing supreme beings, intergalactic bounty hunters, true-blue-blooded opera singers, shiny creatures of energy in corporeal form, the time-traveling anti-you.

Taking inspiration from the censorship of Robert Mapplethorpe's art in the 1980s and 1990s, and the more recent withdrawal of David Wojnarowicz's A Fire in My Belly from the National Portrait Gallery, this exhibit explore the innovative responses to watershed moments in the history of censored LGBTQ art in Canada, England, Ireland, the Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, and the United States. ART: Life of Cats: Selections from the Hiraki Ukiyo-e Collection http://www.japansociety.org/page/programs/gallery/life-of-cats Since arriving in Japan aboard Japanese ships transporting sacred Buddhist scriptures from China in the mid-sixth century, cats have proceeded to purr and paw their way into the heart of Japanese life, folklore, and art.
