Date: February 27th 2015

Hello lovelies,

We're excited to announce details & ticket sales for the 7th Anniversary of our much-loved 1920s speakeasy party Swing House on Saturday, March 28. See below for all info.

We're also thinking it's time for another Goldmine! shopping event, which combines spring-cleaning closet-cleanouts from serious clothes addicts (including Miss Scorpio) with sales of vintage, costume, and handmade treasures from up to 20 other vendors. We're thinking either Sunday March 22 or April 19. If you'd like to sell something, drop us a line with a link to your stuff and a date preference.

In addition to these happenings, we also wanted to let you know about something special we're doing via our kinkier sister-brand, House of Scorpio: a series of poly- and kink-friendly sex and relationship workshops, kicking off Sunday, March 15 and happening about every two weeks. The first class is already halfway to sold out, so we wanted to give you an opportunity to jump in. See http://www.houseofscorpio.com for all details.

Cheers,

A classic speakeasy party in a secret Brooklyn loft, with live swingin' sounds by vintage jazz bands, blazing burlesque divas, exotic cocktails, and the best electro-swing DJs remixing and reinventing vintage grooves late into the night. "Gatsby-era fun with a twist of new-school vibe" (The Village Voice).

The night starts with an introductory dance class for swing basics by Brooklyn Swings, who teach at our loft every Monday night. Live music until 1am by Svetlana & The Delancey Five: a "very sweet & naughty" (Jazzlives), "energetic" (Wall Street Journal), "delightful" (WRHU Jazz Radio), and cinematically handsome Golden Age-inspired sextet. Burlesque fabulousness during and between. Sweet remixed vintage beats after, until the dancing is done, by DJ Shakey.

The Jazz Age never ended, it just got funky. Dress accordingly: "An event worth wearing that ridiculous zoot suit for." - TimeOut NY; "Corsets and top hats tweaked with studs and leather are totally appropriate." - The New York Times. Suggestions: vintage (1920s-1940s) with a modern twist, cabaret, burlesque, Weimar Berlin, classic Hollywood, classy, sassy, tailored, hats, feathers, sequins, beads. Effort required. Dress code modern-friendly after 1am for the electro-swing dance party.

ART: Irreverent: A Celebration of Censorship https://www.leslielohman.org/exhibitions/2015/irreverent/irreverent.html For decades, censors—would-be and actual—have attempted to suppress queer creativity. Taking inspiration from the censorship of Robert Mapplethorpe's art in the 1980s and 1990s, and the more recent withdrawal of David Wojnarowicz's A Fire in My Belly from the National Portrait Gallery, this exhibit explore the innovative responses to watershed moments in the history of censored LGBTQ art in Canada, England, Ireland, the Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, and the United States.
