Absinthe Heroes plus Aurelio Voltaire http://www.dromnyc.com/events/3368/new-york-steampunk-presents-absinthe-heroes https://www.facebook.com/events/1433296236946129

Absinthe Heroes is one of the first Steampunk musicals ever written. It's a satirical tale of an airship race, mad science, and a chocolatier gone bad. Its words and lyrics are by Jeff Mach, and the music was composed by noted Steampunk band Psyche Corporation. Jeff Mach is the producer of The Steampunk World's Fair -- at 6,000 people, one of the largest steampunk events in the world.

Voltaire's music is collection of murder ballads, tongue-in-cheek exercises in the macabre, and just enough bawdy songs about Star Trek and Star Wars to keep a convention audience rolling in the aisles. Many know him for his songs "Brains!" and "Land of the Dead" from the Cartoon Network show "The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy". Voltaire's live shows, whether solo or with his skeletal orchestra, are full of stories and games. Many describe his shows as sitting around a fire while an old friend regales you with tales, presuming that old friend drinks a liter of rum a night, dates zombie prostitutes and wrestles Krakens.

The Circus is said to have started in ancient Egypt when the court entertainers of an immortal Pharaoh escaped their slavery under a midnight moon. They have traveled the globe for centuries, gathering talent from every great empire as the empire itself begins to crumble: Istanbul, Saint Petersburg, London, Berlin...and now they have made it across the sea.

Discover a circus long lost, with music from times gone by or times that never were. The circus unfolds to live bands and in between: acrobatics, aerial, juggling and more, all in a 19th century church with soaring ceilings, stained glass windows and wraparound balcony.

With: - Shayfer James: dark, danceable anthems of mischief - The Dolomites: sake-soaked orgy of Japanese Balkan Tribal musik - Frenchy and the Punk: flapper bohemian punk cabaret - Bindlestiff Family Cirkus: an elaborate lineup of acts by this NYC institution of 20 years - DJ Joro Boro: bridging the dust of Burning Man with the sounds of a rogue Slavic circus

Plus: - Steampunk photo booth by Tsirkus Fotografika - Fabulous face & body painting by Painteresse Elysabeth - Live ink fashion portraits by Yao Xiao - Tarot readings by psychic-to-the-stars Peri Lyons - Extreme balloons by The Balloonatic from Neverland Balloons - DIY steampunk art, inventions, and dream-weaving booth by Dr. X. Catalyst - Wearable art by multiple vendors, including Mustache Mermaid, Canes Enable, Knot Very Nice and more - A selection of interactive antique curiosities by The Museum of Interesting Things - Specialty potions by The House of St Eve (T.H.O.S.E. drinks), including absinthe and other delights

Dress code: Dark cabaret, traveling circus, steampunk Victorian, neo-tribal, funky formal, desert wanderer, Edward Gorey, Tim Burton, Mad Max, City of Lost Children -- or at least cocktail attire. Stilts & characters welcome. Effort required / dress code more flexible after 1am.

Press reviews: "Take a Tim Burton film. Now make it darker (if possible) and sexier (yes, please)...in a stroke of maniacal genius, [G&S] are bringing steampunk fantasy to life" - The Village Voice. "A late-night extravaganza...where the big top and cabaret collide" - The New York Post. "Grown-ups can mingle with fire-breathers and live out their big top fantasies " - TimeOut NY
