Hello lovelies,
We seem to be getting lucky with weather this week. Last night's lightning storm raged in the distance as we cuddled on Miss Scorpio's roof in Firefly's cozy glow (har!). And now it looks like tomorrow night will be clear sailing, too (double har!). We've sold 60 tickets in the 24 hours since the Hobos + Mermaids sailboat party been announced--only 40 more remain for presale, and we'll reserve some for you last-minute types to buy at the dock. We're also working on some exciting plans + extras for the event which we, of course, can't announce yet. So just trust us that this will be an epic night. And we love "epic."
This week, aside from our super-biased picks bearing 1-3 stars, don't miss out on two shows listed in the ONGOING section: machines x 7 and The Umbilical Brothers. Both completely unique and hilariously funny, and we're most definitely going to see both (and how much stronger of a recommendation can we give?). We'd also be remiss not to mention Saturday's Love Canal at BKLYN Yard -- we'll be trying to swing by ourselves before our own nautical adventure. And very likely, the two parties will merge at the end of the night...
And finally... We've updated the G&S website with the full press release for our July 17 Nouvelle Epoque event at the Players Club. You might want to take a look: http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html -- and we'll send a full invite next week (this email would've been pages long, if we included the press release, too!)
Cheers,
Gemini & Scorpio

OUR NEXT EVENT 6/27
===+++===+++===+++===
Hobos & Mermaids on the High Seas
Saturday, June 27, aboard tall ship Clipper City
Pier 17, South St Seaport, $20 adv, $25 dock, 21+
Boat boards 9pm / sails 10pm-12am / closes 1am
Whether you got soaked at the Mermaid Parade or never made it out in the dour weather, here's your chance to shake your mermaid best in surreal nautical surroundings, as Gemini & Scorpio raise the massive square-rigged sails of New York's only Tall Ship for a sunset dance party on the high seas. Rebuilt from original plans borrowed from the National Archives, the 160-ft Clipper City, with its masts rising 135' off the deck, is a faithful replica of the clipper ships that plied America's waters more than a century ago.
We'll bring the party on board with DJ Jon Margulies, originator of hobo-tech: depression era techno-contemporary music that nods to a forgotten America, celebrating half-smoked cigars and steaming cauldrons of stew. Come and jiggle to railroad song mashups and prairie guitars floating in silicon datascapes. Dress: hobos and mermaids, of course!
100 tickets available for advance presale, 25 at the dock, first come, first served

OPENING: GAIA & IMMINENT DISASTER
http://www.adhocart.org
Choosing a moniker after the Greek goddess of the earth, Gaia uses animals, folklore, fairytales and stories from other cultures to convey a narrative within his pieces. Having first been exposed to street art by Cheekz, Gaias awareness of street art came as a truly momentous direction for his artistic endeavors. Gaia continues to experiment with different processes as he brings his works to the galleries and the streets of NYC and beyond. Imminent Disaster first started doing street art as a way of culture jamming. Since then she has gradually been developing pieces that explore the tensions between present day and historical New York. From bits of cobblestone and defunct tramlines to old warehouses gutted and resold as hip condos, Imminent Disaster turns a classical eye toward modern urban life, and reveals what has been lost. Opening Reception: Friday, 7-10pm. (show thru 7/26, AdHoc Art, 49 Bogart Street, Buzzer 22, Unit 1G, FREE)

***PERFORMANCE: machines machines machines machines machines machines machines
http://www.here.org
https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/647455
From the creators of "all wear bowlers." Machines x7 explodes the world of garage tinkers and backyard engineers in a ridiculous theatre piece featuring the world's most complicated machines set to perform the simplest tasks. Following the formula, "the most of amount of effort for the least amount of gain," three chowderhead geniuses reach for the heights of mechanical ingenuity to reveal the depths of human idiocy. Machines x 7 focuses on a trio of fretful men (Rainpan co-founders Geoff Sobelle and Trey Lyford along with Pig Iron's Gabriel Quinn Bauriedel) who may or may not be brothers living in what may or may not be a postapocalyptic world. In constant fear of an unnamed and unseen enemy, they grow increasingly paranoid and wire their bunker with an enormous array of machines constructed from debris. "Men are really just boys with cooler toys. ...absurdly ingenious low-tech creations that hilariously brew their coffee, pour their juice, scramble their eggs and slice thei
r bananas." - Philadelphia Citypaper, Mark Cofta. (6/2-6/27, HERE Arts Center, 145 Sixth Ave, $20-27)

These toon-like troublemakers effortlessly mimic every sound imaginable, creating a warped world where they whip up another "uproarious fiesta of carefully choreographed mayhem" (Time Out New York). A wild mix of physical comedy, amazing vocal sound effects, bizarre sketches and yes even some mime... but done like you've never seen before. [G&S note: These guys are part of our extended circus family, and we're VERY excited to see them in NYC. Since it is primarily a dance theater, the front 3 rows are the cheapest seats, $19--but for this show, excellent seats. We're definitely going.] (6/29 - 7/11, The Joyce Theater, 175 8th Avenue @ 19th Street, Mon-Wed 7:30pm; Thu-Fri 8pm; Sat 2pm & 8pm, $45/$35/$19)
