It's looking like the weather will hold for Thursday's "Firefly" screening, and that we may all be able to squeeze on to Miss Scorpio's roof in Prospect Heights, BK. Now, about this Saturday...yes, we had a Silent Disco planned at the BKLYN Yard. But a rather incredible opportunity just presented itself, and, combined with the fact that the Yard no longer welcomed us with open arms (hrmph), we simply couldn't resist. The short story: it's a Hobo & Mermaid dance party aboard a real 160-ft-long Tall Ship, on a sunset cruise around Manhattan. Seriously. Summer-long screenings of Joss Whedon's Firefly

A rooftop screening of Joss Whedon’s (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse) short-lived but much-loved space-western series "Firefly." If you don't know the show, it's a great opportunity to get hooked on gun-slinging Chinese-cursing smart-ass space rebels who aim to misbehave. And if you are already a fan, it's a rare chance to see it on a big screen.
Two episodes shown every other Thursday until Sep 3, 8pm-12am, on a private rooftop (moves indoors in case of rain). $10 sugg donation, snacks + drinks also by donation or BYO to add to the table. Invite your friends, but please be discreet coming and going, as this is a private space.
This week: "The Train Job" (The crew of Serenity takes on a train heist commissioned by a crime lord. They steal the goods, only to find it is medicine that is desperately needed by the town) & "Bushwhacked" (Serenity is pulled in by an Alliance cruiser while investigating a spaceship that was attacked by Reavers. Simon and River must hide to prevent capture, while something is wrong with the lone survivor of the attacked spaceship.)

Whether you got soaked at the Mermaid Parade or never made it out in the dour weather, here's your chance to shake your mermaid best in surreal nautical surroundings, as Gemini & Scorpio raise the massive square-rigged sails of New York's only Tall Ship for a sunset dance party on the high seas. Rebuilt from original plans borrowed from the National Archives, the 160-ft Clipper City, with its masts rising 135' off the deck, is a faithful replica of the clipper ships that plied America's waters more than a century ago.
We'll bring the party on board with DJ Jon Margulies, originator of hobo-tech: depression era techno-contemporary music that nods to a forgotten America, celebrating half-smoked cigars and steaming cauldrons of stew. Come and jiggle to railroad song mashups and prairie guitars floating in silicon datascapes. Dress: hobos and mermaids, of course!
