Hello lovelies,
Don't forget, your discount to the Russian Baths (two $40 tickets for $70 with code "summer") expires tonight...but we'll give you till the end of the weekend. We know it's hard to remember these things with weekends as packed as this one.
Speaking of which: everyone MUST go to Figment tomorrow or Sunday! What you choose to do with the remainder of your time is up to you--see your choices below. There's many of them, with a handful rated with 1-3 stars in our utterly biased opinion.
A few of our upcoming events highlighted below, and stay tuned to the list for a BRAND NEW super-fancy party in a private Manhattan mansion on Friday, July 17. We were planning to bring back Swing House July 12, but this will be even more amazing. And you know we don't say that lightly...
Cheers,

FB: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=172879105230
Break out your bikini or swim trunks, and join us and our hand-picked crowd of artsy, different, funky (and nearly naked) New Yorkers for Gemini & Scorpio's legendary Russian Baths party (as seen in The Village Voice Best of 2006, The L Magazine, The Brooklyn Paper, Thrillist, Brooklyn Based and many more).
We will have the newly remodeled & sparkling clean baths to ourselves, with every steam room and sauna ready to please, plus a few hand-picked professionals on hand for the optional platzas and massages. The dance floor will get you sweating faster than the saunas with former Bulgarian Bar resident mixologist DJ Joro Boro curating an array of EthnoMesh DJs throwing down Balkan bacchanalia, brass freakout, slum funk carioca, bangin bhangra, percussion insurgency, and cumbia from south of the wall: an uninhibited globalized party fed back into music without borders. Plus, enjoy: jacuzzi and cold plunge pool; poolside lounge; rooftop smoking deck; hookah lounge and chillout rooms; and amazingly delicious food. And we're once again making our homemade infused vodka - yum!
This is the kind of party you always imagine, but can never quite find in real life...and may be the only one where you'll come out cleaner than when you came in. All past parties have sold out in advance and we expect this one to be no different.
Regular tickets: $40

OUR NEXT EVENT 6/25
===+++===+++===+++===
Gemini & Scorpio
present
Summer-long screenings of Joss Whedon's Firefly
http://www.geminiandscorpio.com/events.html
A rooftop screening of Joss Whedons (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse) short-lived but much-loved space-western series "Firefly." Set 500 years in the future, it follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship. The core of the crew fought on the losing side of a civil war, and now make a (largely illegal) living on the fringes of society--and the star system--on the outer planets that refused to join the monolithic Alliance, which had won the war. If you don't know the show, it's a great opportunity to get hooked on gun-slinging Chinese-cursing smart-ass space rebels who aim to misbehave. And if you are already a fan, it's a rare chance to see it on a big screen.
Two episodes shown every other Thursday until Sep 3, 8pm-12am, on the roof of Brooklyn Sanctuary, 778 Bergen St @ Grand Ave, Prospect Heights, BK (moves indoors in case of rain). $10 sugg donation, snacks + drinks also by donation or BYO to add to the table. No RSVP needed. Invite your friends, but please be discreet coming and going, as this is a private space.
This week: "The Train Job" (The crew of Serenity takes on a train heist commissioned by a crime lord. They steal the goods, only to find it is medicine that is desperately needed by the town) & "Bushwhacked" (Serenity is pulled in by an Alliance cruiser while investigating a spaceship that was attacked by Reavers. Simon and River must hide to prevent capture, while something is wrong with the lone survivor of the attacked spaceship.)

**PARTICPATORY: 4th Annual Come Out and Play Festival
http://www.comeoutandplay.org
Come Out and Play will transform New York City into a playground once again. In the past incarnations, hundreds of players gathered to play dozens different games across each city. Players raced through the night in a city-wide game of zombie tag. Friends faced off in life-sized Pong using only their ears to "hear" the ball. Payphones produced points and Tompkins Square Park became a putt-putt course. 200 people performed stunts to display on the Reuters screen in Times Square. This year will be like the last three--only better, thanks in part to our amazing lineup of partners. The cream of the locative gaming crop are converging in NYC to run their very best games (more than ever!) in Times Square, Central Park, Hell's Kitchen, and Pier 84; there will be awesome parties on Friday and Saturday night with games, booze, and prizes; we're giving out awards to the best games at a special ceremony on Sunday; and there will be a titillating panel discussion on Saturday morning abou
t the intersections of geography and urban gaming. (Fri - Sun, various locations, FREE)

BIKE: World Naked Bike Ride
Simultaneous, multi-city environmental protest bike ride. This is the first ride in New York after years in other cities. June 13 is the established date for all Northern Hemisphere rides in 2009, except Black Rock City, which has its own special day on the Playa of the Burning Man Festival. The naked part? Well, this is also the protest part.. its "bare as you dare." Celebrate the skin you're in, but its fine if you are in boxers, a bathing suit, or your skimpiest lingerie.. The idea is to protest the indecent exposure of exhaust fumes to our human bodies. We seek to raise environmental awareness by showing the solution action: ride your bike. We are trying to get body painters to come and assist with body decorating with slogans. (If you have supplies or know somebody who can help, invite them along). The bike ride part is a near-naked bike ride into and around the city. We follow all traffic rules, stopping at traffic lights as required by law. Since this is our first rid
e, folks who want to ride naked should be sure they are part of a pack of scantilly clad, and have clothes and ID on them in case you get NYPD treatment. (Starts West 23rd Street Park, between 11th Avenue and West Side Highway, 5-7pm assembly of bikers, press interviews and photos, body painting, 7-9pm ride, FREE)

*MUSIC: Tin Pan Blues Band, Rusty Belle
http://www.joespub.com
Using instuments from the Mississipi Delta string-band tradtion and from a New Orleans street-party, Tin Pan is acoustic roots music boiled down to the heart of Americana. The members of Rusty Belle swagger between raw blues, tiny tangos, country waltzes and backyard symphonies. The music is littered with dented paint cans, smashed up trashcan lids, old hacksaw blades, and broken glass. Like junkyard songbirds, they sing sweet through all the rubbage. (Joe's Pub, 425 Lafayette Street, Doors 6:30pm, show 7pm, $15)
MUSIC: A (Black) Flag Day Benefit
Support A New World In Our Hearts and celebrate (Black) Flag Day in style. Featuring Ghost Mice, Heathers, Brownbird Rudy Relic, Hubby Jenkins, and Apocalypse Five and Dime, a little bit folky, a little bit brassy, a little bit punk/ragtime, and a little bit queer. (6th Street Community Center, 638 East Sixth Street, between avenues B and C, 7-11pm, $6-10 sliding scale)
**FETISH/PARTY: OBJECTify!
http://www.myspace.com/objectifyny
http://www.OBJECTifyNYC.com
Once upon a time, New York nightlife was a bubbling cauldron of creativity, and producers THE BARONESS, EDITRIX ABBY, XRIS SMACK! and IRENE KAORU hope to stir it up again, monthly. Embracing the Dadaist anti-aesthetic, each month OBJECTify obsesses about one particular OBJECT - June's OBJECT is THE SEXTANT, so the evening's festivities should have a decidedly steampunk flair. This is also the official FIGMENT after-party and the special guest producer is Figment's NOT THAT DAVE. This unique party encourages guests to create, join, and inspire the evening's outcome, with artwork, performance, or costume, demonstrating the party theme. Participants include SEQUINETTE, ST. EVE, LILIANA VELASQUEZ, MACHINE SEX and MOLLY CRABAPPLE in go-go, tarot readings, opera, fashion, art installations, and music. Downstairs, in "THE RUBBER ROOM" presided over by The Baroness, there's music, dance, play, and inspired madness all in the evening's theme. Our philosophy: No spectators! OBJECTify e
ncourages guests to partYcipate, with each one contributing to and creating the evening's outcome. Dress: Antiquarians, Navigators, Explorers, Pirates, Pervy Seamen, All Continents, All Centuries. Make. An. Effort. (The Delancey Lounge, 168 Delancey Street bet Clinton & Attorney St, 9pm-4am, FREE for Artists who bring 2D/3D art, offer a performance or otherwise compete for the $100 Cash Prize for the most inspired interpretation of the chosen OBJECT / $10 in costume / $20 otherwise).

ART: John Wells' Ave Lux
http://www.honey-space.com
An exhibition of four 60-foot long scrolls by John Wells. Begun in his 20's, and still occupying his attention at the age of 60, the scrolls represent a life's enduring fascinations- a trove of motifs, ideas, and sensibilities that have maintained their relevance for the artist over the course of a lifetime, and remain as singular and contemporary today as the time when they were first created. The scrolls are built upon the existing grid of the drafting paper, which provides an underlying structure for the repeating patterns, text and images that play out over the scrolls as a whole. Created on a makeshift worktable, with only six feet of the rolls visible at any given time, the visual arc of the final works was something that even the artist couldn't visualize or anticipate until they were unrolled at the very end. Installed in the round in Honey Space's current configuration, the works are a true tour de force, defining their own sacred space on the western edge of New
York City. In 2009, John Wells revisited the scrolls, adding a border of text from the Treatise on the Triple Epiphany, a 2nd-century Gnostic text. During the course of the exhibition, John Wells will be present in the gallery, at work on current paintings at a table installed for the show, and interacting with the public. (thru 6/13, Honey Space, 148 11th Ave btw 21st & 22nd, FREE)

**PERFORMANCE: machines machines machines machines machines machines machines
http://www.here.org
https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/647455
From the creators of "all wear bowlers." Machines x7 explodes the world of garage tinkers and backyard engineers in a ridiculous theatre piece featuring the world's most complicated machines set to perform the simplest tasks. Following the formula, "the most of amount of effort for the least amount of gain," three chowderhead geniuses reach for the heights of mechanical ingenuity to reveal the depths of human idiocy. Machines x 7 focuses on a trio of fretful men (Rainpan co-founders Geoff Sobelle and Trey Lyford along with Pig Iron's Gabriel Quinn Bauriedel) who may or may not be brothers living in what may or may not be a postapocalyptic world. In constant fear of an unnamed and unseen enemy, they grow increasingly paranoid and wire their bunker with an enormous array of machines constructed from debris. "Men are really just boys with cooler toys. ...absurdly ingenious low-tech creations that hilariously brew their coffee, pour their juice, scramble their eggs and slice thei
r bananas." - Philadelphia Citypaper, Mark Cofta. [G&S note: $3 off all shows with code MACHEARLY until june 1] (6/2-6/27, HERE Arts Center, 145 Sixth Ave, $20-27)
