Introduction: Why should you listen to us?
All Gemini wanted was a sweet, smart, artsy boy. For a 20-something-year-old writer/editor with a solid job, a host of interests from dance to jewelry-making and even a reasonably cute body, it should have been easy. It also should have been simple for Scorpio, a sexy, smart sculptor and graphic designer who was also seeking someone to overwhelm her with creative fireworks.
But funny enough, it wasn't easy at all. We'd tried bars, temples, classes. And believe us, if there were any hot single friends of friends lurking around, we'd have snapped them up. We considered every possibility. Even if he was our gay best friend from high school or the cute broke waiter at the local diner (where we wrote most of this stuff), we gave him serious consideration. As with everything in our lives, we tried to become experts. But darn it, how can you become an expert dater when there's no apparent method to finding great dates?
And frankly, we knew we were too fabulous to just wait for someone amazing to come our way. Between us, we can write award-winning literature, use a blow torch, get into ridiculous yoga positions and pirouette with the best of them, for goodness' sakes. We knew there had to be a way to orchestrate this dating thing. There were surely great men out there; we just needed a smart way to find them.
Neither of us had ever taken online dating seriously. Gemini had signed up years earlier, but frankly hadn't taken the time to really learn to use the system. Then one night, Gemini was noodling around on a dating website when Scorpio came to visit. We tried to look nonchalant as we continued chatting. And yet neither of us could ignore one thing: the computer screen. Before we even realized what we were doing, we'd clicked on the "search" function.
Now, something quietly sparked within us.
Fever. Shopping fever.
Perhaps it had to do with teamwork, or maybe the online market had simply ballooned. But somehow, this was much more fun than Gemini had remembered it. And the more we searched, narrowed our criteria and read profiles, our pulses quickened as we realized...
We had found it. Ebay for Men. We were hooked.
We didn't stop there, either. We honed our online dating skills. We perfected our profiles. As with everything in our lives, we got this stuff down to a science, baby.
Since our experience began, we've had scores of dates--some great, some ridiculous--but we've never had a shortage of fun. That's why we wrote this guide: an online dating free-for-all filled with our hard-earned knowledge, tried and tested on our own fabulous selves.
